MANILA, Philippines — An Army official assured that tight security measures are in place at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, where the remains of thousands of notable personalities, including former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., are laid to rest

In an interview with reporters on All Saints’ Day, Philippine Army Grave Services Unit Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Elenita Altamirano said that Army personnel are on duty around the clock, patrolling the cemetery to prevent untoward incidents.

When asked whether or not they implemented stricter security protocols following Vice President Sara Duterte’s remarks about exhuming the body of the president’s father and then throwing it into the West Philippine Sea, Altamirano stated that no additional measures were taken for that reason.

Among the personalities buried at the 103-hectare cemetery are former Presidents Carlos Garcia, Diosdado Macapagal, and Elpidio Quirino; Medal of Valor awardees Col. Jesus Villamor, Capt. Desiderio Suson, Brig. Gen. Godofredo Juliano, Capt. Conrado Yap, Capt. Lolina To Go-Ang, 2nd Lt. Jose Bandong Jr., and Mayor Robert Eduardo Lucero; and national scientists Juan Salcedo, Perla Santos Ocampo, and Francisco Fonda.
