The DOJ said the inmates who received aid were mostly senior citizens and sickly.
“Real justice is never confined within the boundaries of law. Instead, it is always extended with utmost compassion until it touches the hearts of people, especially those who have less in life,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Monday.
Remulla urged the public to be at the forefront in delivering women from injustices and recognize their role as “decision and policy makers.”
He also assured inmates that the government is “never remiss” in protecting and safeguarding their rights.
“Accept this simple token of my appreciation for your perseverance. I wish all of you a merry and meaningful Christmas,” he said.
The free legal and medical mission was led by the DOJ Action Center in coordination with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Rizalbc.game, San Juan, Mandaluyong chapter, the Legal Aid Society of the Philippines and volunteer paralegals of the Philippine Law School.
