Melanie Neff Díaz and Silvino Edward Díaz Burns wanted to avoid the stress of a large, traditional wedding, so they hosted a quiet celebration at a local restaurant for their nuptials on June 23.

The Miami couple, together for nine years and engaged since 2021, invited 33 family members and friends to Sospiro Natural Wine Bar in nearby Coral Gables, Fla. The two exchanged vows on the restaurant’s plant-filled terrace, and afterward guests dined on Italian cuisine as a jazz duo played before they danced to a D.J. And instead of posing for photos, the attendees had candid shots taken by a photographer.

The intimate gathering allowed Ms. Neff Díaz, 32, a public relations executive, and Mr. Díaz Burns, 36, an entertainment lawyer, to interact with each of their guests while focusing on themselves.

“We often reflect on the peace and gratitude we feel in our relationship and how fortunate we are to have found each other,” said Ms. Neff Díaz, who, like Mr. Díaz Burns, is from Puerto Rico. “So it was important for us to convey that on our wedding day through good food, fine wine and great music.”

Many weddings have become more elaborate, thanks in part to social media and the post-lockdown boom in nuptials. But there has been a recent shift toward weddings that are less structured and indicative of a “quiet life” mind-set, or the desire for a slower, more serene and mindful lifestyle.
